Growing By Resistance
Growing By Resistance
If you lift weights as part of your exercise program you know how important it is for your muscles to grow by using the proper amount of resistance. You also know that when you lighten up on resistance your muscles will shrink, if you stop all together you’ll experience atrophy. You can maintain your muscle by keeping the resistance steady and regular, but the underlying truth is that you can only grow by resistance.
This relates perfectly to life! The times we grow and become stronger, smarter, savvier, and more capable is when we face resistance. The key is to not get beaten down by the resistance so much that it knocks you out of the game. After reading this you’ll know how to use resistance to your advantage and to grow stronger with it. Just like body builders use it in the gym to get bigger muscles you can use resistance strategically to bring you closer and closer to your goals.
If you were just able to coast would you grow stronger? If you were to use some sort of steroid to grow your muscles would it be healthy to you in the long run? Yes, your muscles would grow but you’d be sabotaging your long term gains.
Let me relate a real life example… I was kind of able to coast right into adulthood. At eighteen I had a business that was doing ok, at nineteen I had a business that was doing fantastic (for a nineteen your old). I had no bills, and no pressure, no resistance!
Sure I was able to focus and give my business all of my energy because nothing else mattered to me, I had no wife, no kids, no mortgage I was making real world money in, what to most, seemed like a fantasy world, not to mention I was in my early 20’s! With pretty much zero resistance I put well over $100,000.00 in the bank and owned my first investment property before I was twenty-four! Now don’t get me wrong, I was growing, reading, listening and investing in myself the same way I encourage others to do when I speak, but I still really had no resistance!
The danger of NO Resistance!
The danger of no resistance is the same danger brought on by success that seems to come too easy to you. It’s the, I’m invincible theory-Which states, “I can do anything and everything I touch will turn to gold.” I don’t feel that this is necessarily a bad way to think. But the fact is that different ingredients sometimes go into different recipes! Yes, you’re still going to use the same tools to bake the cake…the oven, the timer, the flour and the sugar, but certain ingredients are going to change depending on what kind of cake you’re baking, get it! Just because you make a wicked cheese cake, doesn’t mean the first time you try to whip up chocolate moose that it’s going to come out perfect!
So there I was in my mid twenties trying to bake some new cakes! Guess what? Smack!!
Resistance! For the first time in my life, me the master, hit some resistance. When you’re striving for success and financial freedom you’ll be fortunate enough to encounter stronger resistance than the guy who’s just looking to “get by.” This is a good thing, because the greater the resistance the more you’ll grow and the more you’ll be forced to develop some new skills that can help you in your overall quest for success! I believe that the lessons I learned from this particular stage in my life will prove to be invaluable! Who knows? If I kept going on the path of no resistance I may sure have been a millionaire by now, but would my lack of growing stronger through resistance caused me to lose it all? We’ll never know, it’s not exactly like the TV show, “Deal or No Deal” when Howie Mandell makes the contestant open the next case after they’ve already taken the deal.
Grow stronger!
Resistance is not the only way to grow; you can grow though reading, listening, and practical application. But for real long term strength it’s just a part of reality! Maybe you can experiment taking the path of “least resistance” but how many successful individuals will tell you that was their ticket to success. Just don’t go out there and look for resistance, that’s foolish! Just recognize when it’s present and be ready to take the valuable wisdom with you so you can grow stronger!
