The Chicken Mac Nugget Theory of Success
The Chicken Mac Nugget Theory of Success
By: Mike Dolpies
I remember watching the movie “Super Size Me” about the gentleman who went on a total MacDonalds diet for 1 month. In one particular part of the movie they were showing how chicken Mac Nuggets were made with parts from so many different chickens. The process was certainly not anything healthy or appetizing, but it made formulate the “Chicken Mac Nugget Theory of Success.”
Our lives are sort of like a chicken Mac Nugget in a sense that we take bits and pieces of wisdom and knowledge and unique experiences and create our own set of skills, strategies, and view points. Some of these are good, some can be hurtful.
If you read twenty to thirty minutes per day and you read at an average rate you may knock down one or so books per week. The kind of books I’m referring to are non-fiction. I don’t have anything against fiction; I just have yet to ever make the time to get into fiction books. Most books I read are informational or motivational.
If you read twenty to thirty minutes per day on any given topic you will become an expert in that topic for the simple fact that only ten percent of people who purchase a book will actually read past the first chapter. By reading you are giving yourself a huge advantage over the next guy and putting some healthy parts into your nugget! Did you know that most Americans do not read books at all?
What’s not that healthy for your nuggets! Tooooo much News, email, mindless web surfing and gossip magazines! If you’re not careful these ingredients can quickly override your positive input. Think about it…You just get done with a great course or book and you’ve got one more idea that adds to your puzzle, and builds on something you learned elsewhere. You get the inspiration along with the “Aha moment” that springs you into taking some action on a business or marketing activity for your business and then “bam” you flip open the paper to the Dow Jones just dropped700 points. Out of curiosity you then turn on CNBC and you’re hit again with more negative news about the economy! You’re inspiration is down and you’re now thinking in “oh no” mode!
I know that we’ve been taught by great entrepreneurs and successful people to ignore and plow forward to our goals, the problem is that just like those Mac Nuggets get all those parts of all those different chickens our subconscious mind records all the information that we allow to get through to it. Once that information is recorded it is part of us forever. And we know that what goes in must come out in some way.
So keep in mind that controlling what goes in and only allowing the “good stuff” will help you utilize information more effectively. “You can do it” from one end and “don’t start a business the economy is bad” from the other is enough to drive you insane. You just gotta do what you want to do based on the information you have at the time!
