A Quick Look at Sarah Palin’s use of ‘Under The Radar’ Street Smart Persuasion
Sarah Palin’s down to earth/ I’m one of you personality certainly shined through during the Vice Presidential Debate.
I must admit that after her most resent one on one interview I was a little nervous for her, but she really knocked it out of the park.
She employed some really simple “Under The Radar” Street Smart Persuasion…
Just take a look at her opening greeting to Joe Biden, “May, I call you Joe?” This very much planned, but also very natural tactic did two important things…
1)It made the viewing audience respond positively to her right off the bat. Many people watching thought: “Oh how nice, how polite, isn’t that sweet!” This built rapport with the audience.
2)By asking Joe Biden a simple question she got agreement early on. And the key when selling anything is to get little yeses early on which will lead to bigger yeses. Of course, the debate format is adversary by nature so this tactic is not as easy in this context but still helped her pave the way for what was to come.
Then she communicated clearly using simple, easy to understand words. She was to the point and very direct, but amazingly still did not come off as forceful. These strategies are all very important to the persuasive process.
