How to Achieve 2 Goals With 1 Stone

I know I usually post marketing related articles. But today I wanted to take a little break from that and share a very simple concept for reaching your goals. I’ll tell you how I personally use this simple success strategy.

2 Goals With 1 Stone…

I’m sure you’ve heard the concept of “kill two birds with one stone,” Right? That’s when we get two things done for the price of one. A lot of people put this idea into action in their lives. Most in very simple ways. They’ll have to go grocery shopping so they’ll also make a list for Wal-Mart because the two stores are close together. I’m sure you can think of several ways you do this every week. But here’s the thing… You can apply this to your life’s most important goals just the same. Let me give you an example, but first explain the concept a little…

In my upcoming book, Motion Before Motivation, The Success Secret That Never Fails, I establish the idea of how any goal that you have should have several pillars that hold it up and support your reaching the goal. For example, if my goal is a specific dollar amount to be available in cash in my bank account by a certain day some time in the future, I’ll need several support structures to increase my odds of reaching the goal. Some of these support structures will be smaller goals, activities and behaviors that will help me eventually reaching the bigger goal.

The really simple, yet powerful benefit of applying this concept is that some of your goals will natuarlly overlap. This helps you actually achieve or work toward two goals at the same time. Now let me tell you a little story…

I have a goal to be ninety-three years old. See, I figure that should give me enough time to reach a good share of the goals I can dream up and set for myself. Since I can, at times, be somewhat of a slow starter, making it to at least ninety-three, while also staying in good health, will increase my odds. So one long-term goal is how long I’d like to live. Out of that, several short-term goals and behaviors are born. A short term goal I recently put in place was to get back down to 185 pounds. I weighed 185 most of my adult life so I figured I should make sure I keep at that way. And I did, until recently when I began to notice that my clothes were fitting a little tighter. As part of my taking action to reach that goal I am now working out longer and harder and more than once a day. Now don’t get the wrong idea, I’m not training hardcore again just yet! In the mean time I also realized something that is overly simple when it comes to, as I like to say,  “getting back to fighting weight;” Most people simply eat too much! I was one of those people, but not anymore! So now let’s talk about the whole concept of two goals with one stone…

Another one of my goals is to spend as much time as possible with Julia and Marissa. I’m always on the look out for chances to live out that goal. But recently I discovered a simple way to work toward my fitness goal, while I also spend some time with them. So I said; “Girlsm hop in the wagon, we’re going for a ride around the neighborhood!” They were so excited! And let me tell you, those steep hills are even more challenging while pulling the girls in the wagon. Eventually the girls will be grown up so pulling them both in a wagon will be out of the question so it’s a lot fun for me.

The good part is this… I’m able to spend some quality time with the girls while I getting an amazing workout. This little “two goals with one stone” combo helps me live one goal of spending more time with them and also helps me work toward the other of getting back down to fighting weight.

So no matter what your goals are. Remember, you can work toward two of them with the same activity if you choose.
