Flinnstone’s Meet Jetson’s Success Principles
Do you remember the two hit cartoons… The Flinntstone”s & The Jetson’s?
I think you can still catch them on the Cartoon Network.
When I was a kid I recall how an episode of The Flinnstone’s was always followed by an episode of The Jetson’s. I guess it was sort of like rewinding back and then pressing the fast forward button all in the same hour.
The Jetson’s would get you excited for the future because of all the cool things that were gonna be possible. The cars that can fly, the robots that will service your household needs. And all of those little conveniences. Then The Flinnstone’s. It was fun to watch them because, even though you knew at a young age that people in the stone age didn’t live the way they did, you were able to see things for how simple they really can be.
So what do The Flintstone’s and The Jetson’s have to do with achieving success in your business and personal life? It’s an interesting question, so let’s explore…
Success is a combination of The Flinnstone’s and The Jetson’s.
Mainly because there are principles that were true hundreds of years ago that are still true today. The cool thing is that modern technology makes implementing those principles in your life and business much, much easier.
But let’s narrow it down. There is one success principle that I believe is key now and will be key for a long, long time. The good news is this principle relates to your personal and business success.
It’s the principle of Persistence
Persistence can be used in sales, marketing, or dating. It can be used in your business and your family. Think about it…
In sales, how many of your best deals were the result of you hanging in there and gently following up with the prospect? If you’re like me you answered, “A bunch!” Whether that meant to stop by his or her office just to say hi and bring some updated information until one day something that you brought really hit home. Or, maybe it was a phone call and the fact that you asked them genuine questions about their situation and how you can be of service to them. Either way, it was persistence that did it.
In marketing you can persist using “Jetson like” technology such as auto-responders and automatically generated direct mail sequences. You can use your E-Newsletter or “Flinnstone like” snail mail to deliver powerful and persuasive messages. The point is you must persist by staying in front of your best prospects.
Of course your business success helps your personal success and visa-versa. I can only think of being married to Jamie as the best personal persistence lesson. See Jamie was coming out of a relationship when we met. We didn’t start dating until a year after . After our first “real date” it was apparent to me that Jamie was sort of in “whatever mode.” Meaning she just didn’t really care either way whether we had a second date or not. But I did, so I persisted.
Here’s the thing… Persistence is one of the success principles that you can apply to your life and business everyday. You can do it with Flinnstone like simplicity or you can add some Jetson like techniques. Either way, it works.
